Scaramanga, whom I took in as a stray had fallen on hard times, despite his fur being coated by oil by the car he'd found shelter beneath, or the dirty face that peeked out at me, this tom had such a spirit. We took to each other immediately, he a little tentatively at first, little by little milk tuna & care coaxed him up the welcoming steps to my abode, with perhaps a less welcome threat of water in order he might once again come clean and choose to stay.

He became mine and I became his, that is as much as any one human or creature can become.

When I fell upon harder times Scaramanga returned the favour, my friend and I shared tears and time till wet eyes dried to the patient and perpetual purrs of my pussycat.
